German Is Stretchy πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺπŸ˜‚

Let me say something about the German language.

German is stretchy. πŸ˜‚

I will not join the bandwagon of people who say, β€œGerman is too hard. German is impossible. I can never learn this language.”

No.

I refuse.

But let me also be honest with you...

German is stretchy. πŸ˜‚

Sometimes, it feels like English, but then somebody adds an β€œuh,” β€œoo,” β€œau,” and suddenly you are questioning everything you thought you knew.

You are saying:

Ich bin. Ich habe. Ich mΓΆchte. Ich brauche. Ich komme. Ich gehe.

At some point, you just realise that β€œIch” has entered almost every conversation. πŸ˜‚

Then you start learning the alphabet.

Then the numbers.

Then the days.

Then simple sentences.

And somehow, little by little, things begin to make sense.

I have actually started learning German, and I cannot explain the little excitement I feel whenever I successfully use it for my personal communication or even professional communication.

It might be just 1 sentence.

Maybe 2 words.

Maybe I have pronounced something terribly. πŸ˜‚

But when I say something in German and the person understands me, I am like:

β€œYES! I AM LEARNING!” πŸŽ‰

And the funny thing is, Germans are often genuinely happy when they hear you trying.

Even if you only know 1 or 2 things, they appreciate the effort.

And that has encouraged me so much.

Because learning a new language is not about trying to become perfect overnight.

Learning a new language is not about becoming perfect overnight. It is about being willing to start. πŸ’ͺ🏾

It is about being willing to sound funny sometimes.

It is about making mistakes.

It is about asking questions.

It is about trying again.

And most importantly, it is about not comparing yourself with somebody else.

This is something I really want people moving to Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ to understand.

You are not in competition with anybody.

Someone may learn German in 3 months.

Someone else may need 1 year.

Someone may speak confidently.

Someone else may still be struggling with basic sentences.

That is okay.

Take your time.

Learn at your own pace.

Learn what you need to learn.

And most importantly, become useful with what you know.

I remind myself of Philippians 4:13:

β€œI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” πŸ™πŸΎ

Philippians 4:13

That mindset gives me the confidence to keep learning, even when something feels confusing.

Because if I can learn it, I will.

If I need more time, I will take more time.

But I will not convince myself that I cannot do it before I have even tried.

And honestly, Germany becomes even more beautiful when you can speak the language.

You begin to understand conversations around you.

You can communicate more independently.

You can connect with people differently.

You can handle everyday situations with more confidence.

You start feeling less like a visitor and more like someone who understands the environment around them.

So, yes...

German is stretchy. πŸ˜‚

German is stretchy. But I am stretching with it. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

One word.

One sentence.

One mistake.

One conversation at a time.

And who knows?

One day, I might be speaking German so confidently that I will look back at this post and laugh.

For now, though...

Ich lerne Deutsch.

And I am proud of myself. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ❀️
